Why Choose Us?

Get in Touch

The Coach House provides supported sheltered housing for older people with low dependency needs. We are not registered with the Care Quality Commission as we are not a Care Home and do not need to employ Registered nurses or Care staff.

Our housing is suitable for older persons over the age of 50+ whom want to retain their independence; allowing others to provide them with their own private room and bathroom, cooked meals and maintain the house and gardens.

We recognise that as ageing occurs you may need more support. Residents can have domicillary care agencies to visit and support you with washing and dressing. - Abbeyfield Yarmouth Society Ltd and their staff do not provide this for you.

What We Do - Application for Residency

Potential residents are welcome to apply for residency with us at any time!

  • Many older people plan for their future and want to have their name on our waiting list, ready for when they need more support.
  • A few older people realise that the time has come to make changes immediately and want to move in straight away.
  • Others like to see what we offer and then they decide to sell their home and then move in.

Whichever way you choose to talk to us about your needs, we make our decisions on residency applications based on needs too!

Support

How applications for residency are managed, in order of ‘consideration of need’.

  1. Does the applicant live in or near Yarmouth & Shalfleet?
  2. Does the applicant have local connections, family, applicant sponsor or existing resident, to the area? For example Yarmouth, Shalfleet and the Isle of Wight.
  3. Where no local connection can be made - does the applicant’s need override the local connection?

If and when a resident leaves The Coach House, the room is offered to another existing house resident first. Then the following procedure is used:

  1. If no existing resident wishes to move into the room and it remains empty, then the room is ‘advertised’ via the waiting list by telephone, in order of application.
  2. If no existing person on the waiting list is ready to move into The Coach House, then the room can be ‘advertised’ at a local level using local Press, if needed.

Our Story

The Coach House is managed by a group of motivated Trustees and volunteers, whose role it is to assist the Housekeeper, safeguard our residents, finances and employ well trained staff. We also maintain the buildings, equipment and garden.

The Coach House has been established in Yarmouth, on the Isle of Wight, since 1998. In conjunction with the Town Trust in Yarmouth and The Delphie Lakeman Trust, The Coach House is required to be a place of local, supported sheltered housing for local residents. As the years have progressed, we have extended and added to the building.

Looking to the future the Trustees recognise that housing needs change and that residents would like larger private accommodation and more facilities. Our plan is to add more homes to the Abbeyfield Yarmouth Society Ltd portfolio over the coming years.
